Plot summary : 1918. Swiss national Madeleine Goddard is the proprietress of a high end dress shop in Stockholm, she selling the latest Paris designs. With friends and acquaintances of all nationalities, she, like her own nationality, is neutral in matters of the Great War, despite seeing seemingly innocent people get hauled away by one side or the other. She meets ladies man Baron Karl Von Marwitz, who only arrived in town having left the German military due to injuries sustained in the war, although many of his German colleagues believe he truly is a deserter. Despite his playboy ways, he pursues Madeleine in falling for her, and while she rebuffs his initial advances in she believing she would only be the latest woman on his arms before he moves on, she in turn starts to fall for him. Their relationship has the potential to cause problems for their true professional lives as both are really undercover spies, Madeleine who is able to go undetected in smuggling information through her trade as she makes her trips to/from Paris to purchase items for the shop. The question then becomes how being spies, regardless of which side either represents, will affect their relationship as they truly do fall in love with each other, being on opposing sides which could complicate matters even more in captured spies having been executed.
